Organic Pet Food - For Healthier Pets

Buying or Making Homemade Pet Food

Organic pet food is good for pets. For the health of your pet, make organic homemade pet food, store food in pet food storage bins or containers, and buy organic pet supplies. Compare food quality using respected pet food reviews.

Making or buying organic pet food, rather than commercial pet food, can be the single most important thing you can do for the health of your pet.

Talk to your veterinarian about the best homemade pet food recipe for your pet; making your own organic food can improve your pet's health, and reduce the potential for allergies.

But make sure that you store the organic food well (it will have a shorter 'shelf life' - it doesn't have the preservatives that the commercial food has and therefore will need good pet food storage bins or containers.

Pet owners who feed their pets commercial pet foods can spend a lot of time and money on trips to the veterinary surgery.

This is mainly due to the fact that commercial, mass-produced pet foods have been found to contain substances that are harmful, (and in some extreme cases, fatal), to our pets.

Organic Pet Food and Pet Food Reviews:

Because of this, many pet owners are now turning to organic pet food in the hope of keeping their pets safe, healthy and hopefully giving them a longer life-span.

Before looking at what commercial pet foods consist of, I want to point out that many advocates of them will argue that legislation has greatly reduced the harmful ingredients used in manufacture.

For example, they might quote The Feeding Stuffs (England) Regulations 2005 in relation to by-products such as feathers and hide.

Well, in reviewing these, and other, regulations it is important to recognize that they still allow for limited amounts of such materials - not a complete absence of them. The same applies to chemicals and genetically modified ingredients which are also permitted.

Certainly, some pet food manufacturers have higher standards than others. It would be unfair to compare those who produce and market food with the health and safety of our pets in mind, to those who do not. However, not all pet food manufacturers and suppliers are so like-minded. Find the best commercial products by reading and researching pet food reviews (make sure that you find independent pet food reviewers, not reviewers paid by the manufacturer).

Commercially, mass-produced, non-organic pet foods present some risk, in varying degrees, to the health of our pets.

The safest choice for your pets is to make the switch to organic. In this way, we know that we are protecting our animals from harm.

Organic Pet Supplies and Information:

In Pet Food Comparisons, part 1, we compare commercial and organic pet food and look at the harmful materials that are used in many commercially produced pet foods. I usually include pictures in my articles in order to illustrate the points I am making. In Part 1 though, I won't because the words speak for themselves. I don't need to look at distressing pictures and I'm sure you don't either.

Pet Food Analysis, part 2, provides an overview of the standards by which organic pet food is produced. You will see that by having your pet 'go organic' you are not only helping her/him, but other animals such as livestock and wildlife, as well as the environment in general.

In Healthy Pet Foods, part 3, we’ll take a look at some of the benefits of organic pet supplies when you feed your pets organic products. You'll then get some advice on how to read labels to ensure you are buying the right stuff. You'll also find a few other buying tips.

In Organic Pet Supplies and shopping for your pet, part 4, we'll have a look at a couple of excellent online organic pet food suppliers in the UK and US for cats and dogs, as well as two suppliers for birds. When buying or using organic pet food, remember that you need effective pet food storage bins (air tight) and also remember that since organic foods do not contain preservatives or other chemicals, the food has a much shorter 'life'.
