Buy Organics: Where and How?
Welcome to Organic Food for Everyone
Our objectives for this site are:
The Bovay's Organic Food Story:
My name is Kristina Bovay. Seven years ago, while working on my masters degree in business administration at Royal Roads University in Victoria, I took a Sustainability class. At that time, sustainability was NOT a mainstream word.
But marrying what I learned in that class, with a growing interest in living a less 'invasive' lifestyle and raising (at the time) three teenagers, launched our family into a more organic lifestyle.
My interest in organic food came from increasing concern about the impact we have on our planet; a sustainable lifestyle was a choice our family made. One of our influencers has been the environment we live in: West Coast Canada is beautiful, natural, and very oriented to environmental commitment.
My family has participated in learning, growing, buying and using organic foods.
My daughter, Lisa, has her Bachelor of Science degree, with a major in Environmental Science and a minor in Kinesiology. Lisa and I will be the major researchers and contributors of content to this site. My son, Paul, is a great cook and has tested the recipes on this site (I've contributed the reviews). My husband, Christian, and my other daughter, Caite, support us on the more technical aspects of the site.
We live in Western Canada, in beautiful British Columbia. We have relatively easy access to organic foods; our West Coast lifestyle encourages a large number of organic foods to be grown and sold in markets and stores, and even delivered directly to homes.
Our personal goal is to use more organic food in our everyday lives, to become healthier, and to educate ourselves and others to the advantages and to the challenges of organic food.
From the Bovay's:
Eat healthy! Live healthy! Making a significant change in your lifestyle can be overwhelming. It is easy to give up. We started small. We began to cut consumption of red meat (first took one red meat dinner out of our weekly diet, then two, now we only eat red meat once a week at most).
Then we began growing our own vegetables: we had organic soil shipped in at double the cost but we felt it was worth it and our vegetable garden (5 years after we started it) is highly productive every season. We also try to follow the 100-mile rule as much as possible and buy local foods produced nearby.
If you are thinking about growing your own organic produce, you are in the right place. We have been growing our own vegetables and herbs for some years now. Have a look at our organic vegetable gardening guide - you can access it from the site map or the navigation bar.
We will be adding more organic food recipes soon (an organic meal can taste quite wonderful).
Please enjoy your visit and return often as new articles, news, and information will be appearing regularly.
